My parents have a ten year age difference between them.

I hate seeing teenage girls between 15 and 18 dating guys that are between 21-26 years old. It's just really, creepy. I believe once you get older and have the maturity to handle a relationship with a moderately large gap in age difference, then go for it, but older men don't have any business dating high schoolers.

Just my opinion.

there's just no knowing unless you know the two people in question. there can be nothing strange about a 30 year old dude dating an 18 year old if they fit together well, and there can be something very strange and silly about a 28 year old girl dating a 29 year old idiot.

I can't imagine that at 29 I'd have anything in common with a 20 year old guy. But I'm 23 and one of my best friends is 31 and my roommate is 30 and I really don't ever think about it.

I dont think that is a big deal, not in my opinion anyway. I mean, as long as he is taking care of his kid and spending time with his kids instead of going out with the other girl constantly etc etc
But thats my take on the having kids and dating situation.

I'll say this, since we're on the topic - Im 27, 28 in a few months. I think that my dating age range would be 23-32 ish. I personally couldnt see myself with a 20 year old or younger. I just think that we'd have so little in common, what would we talk about? Her finally being legal to drink? That rockin dorm party she went to last night?

one of my best friends is 7 years older than his girlfriend and they have a kid together. it's weird. he use to think a certain way but since his girlfriend doesn't think that way he conformed to her way of thinking. she also thinks she some super mature adult who has figured it all out just because she finally moved out from living with others and has to pay bills now. what's also weird is that when we were out of high school she was in 7th grade probably giggling and thinking about kissing boys.
even though i think it's weird, he doesn't. he's always liked them younger though which i'm the exact opposite.

While some girls would be real into crews and bands and crap, if I girl is more interested in me cause of that then I've lost all interest.

Lets look at Matts situation - his friend is dating a girl that is right between the age of him and his kid. WOW! Imagine if the GF was closer to his kids age than his age - HOW WEIRD

My folks are 12 years apart, but they met when they were 30 and 42 respectively. At that time they were emotionally, socially and economically on the same plane. My mom already had a child and had outgrown any leftover party instincts from her 20's and my dad was at a point where he was looking very seriously to settle down. It worked out well for them and they've been married ever since. They do joke about the age difference and there's actually a picture frame in our house with two pictures taken the same year of each of them: My pa is taking his graduation picture for the Marine Corps and my Ma is taking her first grade school picture.

I think, for the most part, a drastic step in ages is a hard obstacle to overcome for most people. As i mentioned above, the differences in perception across a wide range of issues, as well as the differences in social goals, are generally very large based on age bracket. However! As was clearly outlined in my own, as well as several other posts above, there are numerous cases where folks act in a way, or have an age defying perception of the world around them, that balances those differences out and makes an excellent relationship possible.

I do not, generally, consider it good practice to date someone under 18 unless you are within a 1-2 year difference, though. Legally, and socially, there are too many negative connotations surrounding. I also think most people at that age are in a very interesting transitional period influenced by modern western values and ideas about marriage/dating timeframes, which negate most arguments along the lines of "Well my grandma and grandpa were married and had two kids by age 17..." This is clearly a much different society than 1900-1960 and expectations about women's and men's roles in society, as well as their socially expected timelines, have shifted to the point of making those comparisons extremely infeasible and ineffective.

i was being lazy. if someone is 18 and someone is 17 i dont care.

i personally dont agree with that. 18 and 30 though, go for it.
