bummer. that was one of the only places my mom would drop Kyle and myself off unsupervised for a little bit when i was unable to drive myself.
  2.
its only friday and saturday after 5
  3.
Anyone know what prompted this? Vandalism? Theft? Fighting? There must have consistent issues to warrant such a harsh rule.

I think a better use of resources would be to ban those damn bootleg ass stores they've started to put in.

no kidding man. you know a mall is really going downhill when you start to see that kind of thing.
  4.
what do you mean by bootleg ass stores? haha.
  5.
probably stores that sell dumbass bootlegs of whatever. be it shirts, hats etc...
  6.
You mean knock offs/imitations? Like "Foakley" sunglasses? When I think of 'bootleg' I think of stolen software/music/movies.

the really sparsely furnished independent stores that sell rugs, cheap knicknacks, offbrand clothing. stores that generally look shabby next to a national chain with a defined brand and some money behind their interior decoration.

Think of it like this: Have you ever seen a bootleg movie? Now imagine if someone bootlegged a store.

yeah i would use this statement in defense of not having the ban. The $1 theatre doesn't always make the best business desicions.

I read about this in the Winston-Salem Journal today. They would like to implement a ban on those under 18 after 5pm on Friday and Saturday evenings without parental supervision. The same company that owns Hanes Mall owns some other malls, including one in Raleigh that has the ban in place. They said that "reportable incidents" dropped by 60%. They did not include any figures about how much revenue dropped. There is going to be a meeting about Hanes Mall in the next week or so. They're hoping to cut down on "foul language" and fights "in or around the mall."

I know for a fact that half of our clientelle in PacSun in the afternoons and evenings were teeny boppers. Teenagers have nothing better to spend their money on than useless clothing and trinkets.

And I also know, from growing up in Winston, that there is NOTHING else to do on a Friday or Saturday night besides the mall or the movies that doesn't involve getting into trouble.

Actually growing up in Winston I went to Ziggys quite a bit. No trouble and it ruled.
But I get what youre saying, for a younger person there isnt much to do. But thats most places, not just Winston.

that was also back in the day when that many venues with good music existed and had shows almost every weekend. Your parents were also probably more lenient than some other folks, including mine. Then again, the mall is kind of a bummer now because aladdin's castle is gone, which between that and suncoast was all i cared about at age 15. WTF.

im going to the mall to try and get carded, to keep my self esteem up that i still look young.

    oh, ps

news:Winston-Salem, NC -- Hanes Mall is making its new policy restricting unsupervised teens official.

The mall announced its new "Youth Escort Policy" on Thursday.

The policy will take effect beginning March 5, 2010.

It requires all mall visitors younger than 18-years-old be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian who is 21-years-old or older on Friday and Saturday evenings after 6:00pm.

In a news release, mall leaders say the Youth Escort Policy is intended to "curtail the rising number of unsupervised youth hanging out at Hanes Mall and related disturbances occurring there on Friday and Saturday nights."

Leaders also noted the policy is in response to feedback from "local government, business leaders, school officials and members of the Forsyth County community."
