aight....lets see what we can make of this. If there is a movie you have seen recently that you really liked/disliked...tell us your thoughts. It would be cool not to include films that hit the main box office. I thought about starting this thread as I just got on netflix last month and am always curious to see what else is out there.

i saw a movie recently that was SO BAD that it made the full circle back to being awesome. its called:

    THE ROOM

tommy wiseau is the writer/producer/director/main actor of this gem and everything about this movie: plot, acting, production, shitty green screen, horrible over dubs, etc., make this movie so funny to watch. the guy is out of mind. he didnt know what the difference was between 35mm film and HD so he decided to shoot the entire movie in both formats, so constantly the quality switches back and forth. oh, and this was made in 2005 and cost 6 million dollars. i have no idea HOW it cost that much because we could have made this in the richardson's attic

    Penelope

It has Christina Ricci and some other people in it. I suggest you check it out with a significant other.

i watched about half of "prince of darkness" a couple of days ago. i'm not finished, but so far this is what i've gathered:
-7 million years ago, satan was a god roaming the earth and left some green slime in a sealed container that is his son before he was banished to the darkness
    -jesus was an alien
-the roman catholic church is covering up the fact that jesus is an alien and protecting the people of the earth from the slime
-a scientist from the future has sent messages that people in the church see when they're sleeping to warn them about the slime
-the ancient text left near the slime contains a lot of differential equations and warnings for the scientists
-this movie is 100% awesome and the music rules

I also mentioned The Brothers Bloom in another thread but this is a must-watch.

Also, if you're looking for netflix movies, all of the Wholphin DVDs are on there and totally worth checking out. I also made a thread about them on here.

a movie i just recently caught called 'Half-Nelson' w/Ryan Gosling, was pretty banging. its simple and kinda devoid of dialogue, but it flips a stereotype of drug addiction on its head and has a really decent shape-up and ending.

also, im pretty late on this one, but i saw 'Sex & Lucia' for about the 5th time the other day, im gonna have to say go watch that jank. its long, enveloping, and sort of raw sometimes, but if you can look past the subtitles, its a really good story

miracle at st anna - i liked it. but its got no true story behind it, i think that was one of the marketing ploys 'based off of real events' or something. yeah, ww2 was real, and black people are real, thats about all its got.

october sky - watched it the other night before bed. i love this movie. this really did happen. great story about a few high school kids that did right.

man john carpenter is amazing. i remember the first time i watched in the mouth of madness was at this house i'd never been to before way out in fuckin egypt. in the boonies. when my friend and i were leaving we really wasn't sure if we were going the right way and we saw someone riding a bike down this super dark rural highway. all we could see was the reflectors on the pedals coming round and round towards us. fuckin creepy man, i will never forget that. i'm going to watch prince of darkness now. word up to streaming netflix on the tv.

a few years ago i went with a mission team to war, WV where this movie was based. we actually stayed in the high school for a week and there were movie posters near the offices on the 3rd floor.

The new Nicholas Cage movie, Knowing, is pretty good. The idea behind it is awesome, and the movie itself is awesome, although the acting could be better.

The ending was absolutely over the top, a complete joke. It was almost laughable, it didn't fit the movie at all.

Just saw Black Irish with Tom Guiry (the kid from Sandlot). I thought it was pretty good. Tom plays a real asshole and it takes place in Boston so I guess they liked him enough in Mystic River to throw him in this.

I also saw Jeux d'enfants (Love me if you dare)...its a great french chick flick for you dudes to watch with your gal. I enjoyed a lot of the effects in it and there are a lot of Michel Gondry-esque moments that are great.

maybe i though that it would just be a shit movie and it wasn't was the reason i think so highly of it. i don't know. i'd watch it again but netflix took it of instant queue.

i've kinda had a little maniac cop marathon recently since all those are on there though. those movie all are so bad in a great way.

I loved Into The Wild (it was released in 2007)

Directed by Sean Penn, starring Emile Hirsch.

    Good stuff.

Copy and pasted general idea of the movie:

After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness. Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his life.

    Based on a true story.

I gotta say....Into the Wild was one of those movies that to me, the style of how it was shot was kind of all over the place, but the story and the script was so damn strong that it didn't matter....its probably one of the saddest movies I've ever seen, especially the last person he meets....Definitely enjoyed this movie

Especially seeing how I had just lost my grandfather at the time. I've never cried during a movie, but at was pretty damn close. I wanted him to stay with that old dude so bad.

Oh yeah I also watched yesterday The Education of Charlie Banks which is Fred Durst's directorial debut. For his first movie, I thought it was pretty good. Acting by a few of the characters was sub-par but awesome dialogue.

I watched a B film called Elephant the other day, rumored to have been modeled after the Columbine Shootings (Writers/Directors never actually commented on this matter). I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I've done a lot of research on Columbine and a few other famous school shootings. I reallllly really dug it.

Just watched the movie "Stop-Loss" yesterday. Its about a group of soldiers who get stop-lossed, meaning regardlesss of the end of their contract in the army and because of the low number of enlisters, they are under orders of the president to ship back out to Iraq. I thought it was pretty good...just sheds some light on some back-door politics that us smarter Americans don't find surprising about our government

Ponyo was a lot of fun, a lot like Miyazaki's totoro work rather than his Mononoke, but with a good dash of Spirited Away in there. Grinned the entire way through. D9 was also pretty good, lots of fun/funny action and some neat surprises that deviated from what i thought it would be when i watched the trailer.
