    it's not against the law for them to "go out" or whatever, but if they really did care for one another then they could have waited 2 years so they could have sex. love is wanting what is best for one another. breaking laws, as silly as they might seem, doesn't show love.

    i think it takes a while for "love" to mature, and 14 year old girls are weird enough, so i think she should have waited.

    as i mentioned, my parents got together when my dad was 19 and my mom 15...im pretty glad that happened. she had me when she was 21 but i know they didnt wait til then to start practicing.

    andy you still havent given an answer .i was just listening to a doctor on the radio this weekend how especially at a young age girls are looking for a relationship or love and young men are looking for sex.my own mother was married and had a kid by the time she was 15 but she was also part of a large family of 15 children and had been helping take care of her brothers and sisters since she was 10 she also told me she was not ready to be in a serious relationship even though in her household you had to grow up fast.i want to know how you feel a 14 year old girl is ready for a serious realtionship involving sex?

    I am sure I just have a more relaxed view maybe than some people do regarding sex? Insteading of focusing on the negative consequences of having sex (unwanted pregnancy, stds, not being ready, not being mature, etc) I am more worried about the negative consequences of repressing sexuality in people that are hitting puberty. Also, sex is a very real part of relationships. It always has been. It is a natural, healthy part of human nature.

    I will say most 14 year olds are probably not old enough or mature enough or ready to have sex. But this is definitely not universally true, so I can't see how or why I could judge it as wrong.

    im just saying i dont think they waited until she were 21 to start having sex. idk when they did because i dont want to know those details and this statement alone is making me cringe slightly but nothing really bad happened from their relationship. unless of course you count me being born a bad thing, which some of you might.


    that being said this is a different day and age with the advent of online predators and such so we as a society need to be more cautious i suppose. they were also living in pierre south dakota and the age gap was pretty normal just because the population was/is not very large. really i dont think its necessarily right that a 19 year old should be boning a 14 year old, but i think that the punishment should not be so severe if it can be established that they did have a loving healthy relationship.

My wife currently is about the same difference in age as the 19 and 14 year old situation and we almost dated when i was 18 so i'm glad to think all of you think i'd be a pervert then. I don't think "waiting" has anything to do with love and i think it's ridiculous to term it wrong just because it's illegal.

    Also, unwanted pregnancies happen at all ages. Don't use that as an arguement here because that just sounds like teaching abstinence instead of prevention.

    oh and i just want to reiterate my opinion from the other thread. I don't know the details of that particular situation and neither do any of you. I refuse to say it's wrong because it's illegal or just because she was younger. I think this is all a very grey area and is not as simple as saying under a certain age someone is not ready. Everyone is different and some people are sexually mature at a much younger age and then you have people like garrett that still won't be sexually mature when he's 30. I think instead of restricting kids we need to be working with them to have them understand what sex means to them and helping them have the strength to back that stance, whatever that might be.


    basically what I'm trying to say is Garrett shouldn't be having sex until he starts paying rent and stops buying toys.
